Trim Work Installation That Elevates Interiors

Trim work installation is where a renovation either comes together or falls apart. The miter joints at your crown molding, the reveal lines on your door casings, the way a baseboard meets a floor transition, none of it forgives sloppy measurement or a rushed cut. At Strictly Builders Inc, owner Ryan Alson treats every linear foot of trim with the same precision he brings to a full kitchen remodel or structural renovation. Three years in, the standard hasn't moved. If your trim work looks like an afterthought, it probably was. Call for a free estimate and see what a clean finish actually looks like.

Good trim work starts before the first nail goes in. Profile selection matters: a heavy colonial casing can overpower a modern space, while too-thin baseboard in a room with 10-foot ceilings looks like an apology. We assess the existing architecture, recommend profiles that belong in the space, and take measurements that account for out-of-square walls and unlevel floors (both of which are common in Northeast Florida's older housing stock). Cost drivers on a trim project include the complexity of the profiles, the number of inside and outside corners, whether paint-grade or stain-grade material is specified, and whether any existing trim needs to be removed and matched. Every job is different, contact Strictly Builders Inc for an accurate estimate.

Trim Services We Install

Every profile, every transition, handled under one contractor.

01

Crown Molding

Ceiling-to-wall transitions that require precise spring angle cuts and perfectly level layout. We handle compound miter work on site, no pre-cut guesswork.

02

Baseboards

The most-seen trim in any room. We fit to floors that aren't level, cope inside corners so the joint stays tight as wood moves with Florida's humidity, and nail at stud locations so nothing lifts.

03

Door and Window Casings

A clean casing reveal makes the difference between a finished room and one that still looks like a job site. We cut to a consistent reveal and back-cut the edges so they lay flat against drywall.

04

Wainscoting and Board-and-Batten

Panel systems that add depth and architecture to any wall. Layout is everything here. We space panels to the room width so you don't end up with a sliver at the corner.

05

Chair Rail and Picture Rail

Horizontal trim elements that require level runs across walls that often aren't. We establish a true level line first and work from there, not from the existing floor.

06

Coffered Ceilings and Beam Wraps

Structural or decorative, we build the grid, miter the intersecting profiles, and deliver a ceiling detail that looks built-in because it is.

How It Works

From Profile Selection to Final Nail

Three phases, no surprises.

  1. 01

    Measure and Select

We assess ceiling heights, architectural style, and existing finishes. Then we recommend specific profiles and materials, paint-grade MDF for painted trim, solid wood when you want a stain-grade finish alongside custom staining.

  2. 02

    Cut and Fit

Every piece is cut on site. Inside corners get coped, not butted. Outside corners are mitered and checked for square before a single nail goes in. Walls that are out of plumb get back-cut so the face stays tight.

  3. 03

    Secure and Finish

We nail at stud locations, set every nail head, and fill before we leave. Gaps at ceiling or floor lines get caulked so paint adhesion holds long-term. The room is swept before we walk out.

The Standard

What Separates Precise Trim from a Paint-Over Patch

  1. 01

    Coped Inside Corners

Butt joints at inside corners open up as wood expands and contracts with seasonal humidity changes. A coped joint stays closed. We cope every inside corner on baseboard and crown, always.

  2. 02

    Stud-Located Fastening

Trim nailed only into drywall will lift within a year, especially on baseboards. We locate studs before we start and hit them on every run. The trim stays put.

  3. 03

    Wall Condition Check First

If the drywall behind your trim has moisture damage, you'll find out after the trim is installed. Unless someone checks first. We don't skip that step. If there's an issue, we tell you before a single profile goes up.

One Contractor for Trim, Floors, and Cabinetry

Trim work doesn't live in isolation. It meets your flooring at the baseboard, wraps your cabinet installations at the crown, and frames every door and window in the room. When those elements come from three different contractors, transitions get mismatched and nobody owns the problem. Strictly Builders Inc handles the full scope, so the profile that meets your stair installation was chosen by the same person who installed the stair. The reveal lines are consistent because one set of hands made every decision. That's not a sales point; it's just a more rational way to run a renovation.

Trim Work Questions Worth Answering

What is the difference between paint-grade and stain-grade trim material?
Paint-grade trim is typically MDF or finger-jointed pine. It machines cleanly, holds paint well, and costs less than solid wood, but it cannot be stained because the grain is inconsistent. Stain-grade trim is solid wood, usually poplar, oak, or pine, selected for visible grain. If your design calls for a natural wood finish alongside any hardwood refinishing work, we specify stain-grade from the start.
Why does crown molding crack at the corners after installation?
Almost always, it's a butt joint at an inside corner painted over without caulk, or a compound miter cut that wasn't quite right. As wood moves seasonally, the joint opens. The fix is proper coping on inside corners and a thin bead of paintable caulk at the ceiling and wall lines before paint. We do both on every crown installation.
Can new trim be installed if the walls are out of square?
Yes, and they usually are. Out-of-square walls require back-cutting the trim profile so the face sits flat even when the wall tilts. On outside corners that aren't 90 degrees, we bisect the actual angle and miter to that, not to 45 degrees. Skipping this step produces visible gaps, which is what distinguishes a careful installation from a rushed one.
Should baseboards go in before or after flooring?
Baseboards are typically installed after flooring is down, sitting just above the finished floor surface. This way, flooring expansion is accommodated beneath the baseboard without lifting or buckling the trim. If you're coordinating trim with a new flooring installation or refinishing project, we sequence the work so nothing gets damaged when the floor goes in.
How long does a full trim installation take for a standard room?
A standard bedroom or living room with baseboard, door casings, and window casings typically takes one to two days depending on the number of doors, windows, and corners. Crown molding adds time proportional to room size and corner complexity. Rooms with irregular ceiling angles or multiple outside corners take longer. Coffered ceilings and wainscoting are multi-day installations.
What happens to existing trim that doesn't match new work?
Matching existing trim profiles exactly is sometimes possible if the profile is still in production. When it isn't, we have two options: replace all trim in the affected area with a matching profile, or transition intentionally at a door threshold or architectural break so the change reads as designed rather than patched. We walk through both options before any material is ordered.
