Flooring Installations That Go Subfloor to Finish

Flooring installations vary more than most homeowners expect, the material, the subfloor condition, the room size, and the finish level all determine what a job actually involves. At Strictly Builders Inc, we've handled it all: hardwood, LVP, LVT, tile, epoxy coatings, and carpet, plus the subfloor leveling and demolition work that needs to happen before any new floor goes down. Ryan Alson, our owner and CEO, has been in the trade for three years and runs every project directly. You're not coordinating with a dispatcher, you're talking to the person on the floor. Call for a free estimate and we'll tell you exactly what your job requires.

What drives cost on a flooring project is usually what's underneath, not the material on top. A subfloor with soft spots or uneven areas has to be corrected before installation begins, skipping that step causes any floor, regardless of quality, to fail early. Material choice matters too: hardwood and tile sit at the higher end of the cost range, while LVP and LVT offer strong durability at a lower price point. Room size, transitions between flooring types, and whether existing flooring needs removal first all affect the final scope. Every job is different, contact Strictly Builders Inc for an accurate estimate.

Floor Types

Every Flooring Material We Install

We don't specialize in one product line, we install whatever the room actually needs.

01

Hardwood Flooring

Solid and engineered hardwood installation, including acclimation, nailing, and glue-down methods. We handle sanding and finishing on site when the project calls for it. Hardwood demands a dry, level subfloor, we check that before we start, not after.

02

LVP and LVT

Luxury vinyl plank and tile are the most practical choice for Florida homes, moisture-tolerant, durable, and available in finishes that are genuinely hard to distinguish from wood or stone. We float or glue down based on the subfloor and manufacturer spec.

03

Tile Installation

Porcelain, ceramic, and natural stone tile for floors, kitchens, and bathrooms. Proper tile work starts with a flat, stable substrate. We won't set tile over a subfloor that's going to flex. See our full tile installation work for bathroom and wet-area detail.

04

Epoxy Floor Coatings

Garage floors, utility spaces, and commercial floors benefit from a properly applied epoxy coating. Surface prep determines how long the coating lasts, we grind or acid-etch before any product goes down. A shortcut there is a peel job in six months.

05

Carpet Installation

Bedrooms, bonus rooms, and basements. We stretch and tack carpet correctly. A loose installation that bubbles up inside a year is one of the most common callbacks we see on work other contractors did. Carpet installation done right stays flat.

06

Subfloor Repair

Soft spots, squeaks, and uneven areas have to be corrected before any new floor goes down. We replace damaged OSB or plywood sections, add blocking where needed, and self-level where the grade isn't flat enough for tile or rigid flooring. This step isn't optional.

Our Process

How a Flooring Installation Actually Works

  1. 01

    Assess and Prepare

We inspect the subfloor for moisture, level, and structural integrity before any material is ordered or staged. Problems found here get fixed before installation begins, not patched over.

  2. 02

    Remove and Install

Existing flooring comes out cleanly. New material is installed to manufacturer spec and industry standard, with proper acclimation time where the material requires it. Transitions and thresholds are set, not skipped.

  3. 03

    Finish and Inspect

Trim, baseboards, and shoe molding go back in place. We walk the finished floor before we call it done, checking for gaps, lippage on tile, or any section that doesn't sit correctly.

Whole-Home Scope

Flooring as Part of a Larger Renovation

Most flooring projects don't exist in isolation. A kitchen remodel almost always involves new flooring when tile, hardwood, or LVP runs through to adjoining rooms. Bathroom renovations require tile work that coordinates with shower walls and vanity placement. Stair treads that don't match the new floor material are a detail that gets noticed, we handle stair repair and replacement as part of a flooring scope when the project calls for it. Strictly Builders Inc handles the complete project under one contractor. There's no separate flooring sub, no handoff, no gap in accountability. Ryan Alson coordinates the full scope from subfloor to finish trim. That matters most on larger renovations where sequencing decisions, when the flooring goes in relative to painting, cabinetry, or new construction framing, determine how clean the final result looks. We've worked through those sequences enough times to know the order that protects the finished floor instead of ruining it.

What We Won't Cut Corners On

Three years in the trade teaches you exactly where jobs fail. These are the steps we refuse to skip.

Subfloor inspection before material staging
If the substrate isn't right, no floor lasts. We find problems before they're buried.
Manufacturer-specified acclimation for hardwood
Wood that hasn't adjusted to the home's humidity will cup or gap after installation.
Proper surface prep for epoxy and tile
Adhesion failures come from skipped prep. We grind, level, or prime as the material requires.
Clean transitions between flooring types
Threshold strips and reducer pieces are set correctly, not thrown in as an afterthought.

Areas We Serve for Flooring Work

We install flooring throughout the greater area, including beach communities, established neighborhoods, and fast-growing new construction corridors. Older homes in Riverside and Murray Hill often have subfloor conditions that need attention before modern flooring goes in. Newer builds in Ponte Vedra, Saint Johns, and Fleming Island typically have cleaner substrates but require precise transitions across open floor plans.

Frequently asked questions

What's the average cost to have flooring installed?
Flooring installation cost depends on material type, square footage, subfloor condition, and whether existing flooring needs to come out first. Hardwood and tile sit at the higher end; LVP and carpet are typically lower. Subfloor repairs, leveling, or moisture mitigation add to the scope when they're needed. Every job is different, contact Strictly Builders Inc for an accurate estimate based on your actual space.
Does the subfloor always need to be replaced before new flooring goes in?
Not always, but it needs to be inspected every time. Soft spots, squeaky boards, uneven areas, or moisture-damaged sections have to be corrected before installation. Tile and rigid LVP are particularly unforgiving over a subfloor that flexes or has high spots. We check the substrate as a first step. If repairs are needed, we tell you before we start, not halfway through the job.
Is LVP a good choice for Florida homes?
Honestly, LVP is one of the most practical flooring choices for Florida's humidity. It's dimensionally stable in ways solid hardwood isn't, wood expands and contracts with moisture swings, which causes cupping and gapping in homes without consistent climate control. LVP handles those conditions better, installs faster, and costs less. For high-traffic areas or rooms that see any moisture exposure, it's a strong call.
Can you install flooring as part of a larger remodel, or only as a standalone project?
Both. Strictly Builders handles flooring as a standalone installation and as part of full kitchen or bathroom remodels. When flooring is part of a larger scope, sequencing matters, floors typically go in after rough work is done but before final trim and cabinetry is set. Getting that order wrong damages the finished floor. We coordinate the full sequence so the floor is protected through the rest of the build.
What's the difference between LVP and LVT, and does it matter which one I choose?
LVP (luxury vinyl plank) mimics wood grain in a plank format. LVT (luxury vinyl tile) mimics stone or ceramic in a square or rectangular tile format. Both are the same core material and carry the same moisture resistance. The choice is visual and layout-driven. LVT set in a large-format pattern works well in kitchens and main living areas; LVP in a staggered plank pattern reads as wood flooring. We'll give you a direct recommendation based on the room.
How long does a flooring installation take from start to finish?
A standard single-room LVP or carpet installation typically runs one to two days. Tile work takes longer because of mortar cure time between setting and grouting. Hardwood that requires on-site sanding and finishing adds time for each coat to dry. Subfloor repairs extend the schedule based on scope. We give you a realistic timeline before we start. Not one we have to walk back later.
